Thinking about becoming an instructor?

 

What is required to become an instructor: 

· The desire to become an instructor 

· Complete the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)

 · Pass the PADI Instructor Examination (IE)

 To enroll in the IDC, you must: 

· Be a PADI Divemaster or a professional instructor from another recognized diver training organization. If the candidate is not a PADI Divemaster, they must successfully complete a dive rescue skills assessment from the PADI Divemaster course. 

· Be at least 18 years old. 

· Have a medical clearance from a physician, issued within the last 12 months. 

· Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months. 

· Have completed an EFR Primary and Secondary Care course (or equivalent) within the last 24 months. Holding an EFR Instructor qualification (or equivalent) is mandatory for becoming an 

 

Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI). 

· Provide documentation for any non-PADI certifications at the entry-level, advanced-level, rescue diver, and dive leader levels, if applicable.

 To be admitted to the PADI Instructor Examination (IE), you must: 

· Successfully complete an IDC or OWSI program within the 12 months prior to the start date of the IE.

 · Have logged 100 dives. 

· Have an instructor certificate signed by a PADI Course Director. 

· Submit the application form for the PADI IE and pay the fee. 

· Have a medical clearance for diving from a physician, issued within the last 12 months. 

· Hold an EFR Instructor qualification by the completion of the IE. What materials and equipment are required for the course?

 · The PADI Instructor Manual and the PADI Guide to Teaching. 

· You need to have other PADI curricula, slates, videos, and teaching aids. 

· Full scuba diving equipment and a suitable exposure suit for the local water temperature.

The Instructor Training Process Complete the IDC program: 

· Teaches techniques for teaching skills and knowledge. 

· Focuses on the programs and courses that PADI Instructors can teach. 

· Introduces participants to the entire PADI System. 

· Focuses on business and marketing considerations. 

· Highlights further development opportunities for a diving instructor. 

· Completing this program prepares you for work and for taking the PADI Instructor Examination (IE). The instructor preparation program focuses on learning and development – not on evaluation. 

 

Instructor Examination (IE): 

· Serves as an objective evaluation of your skills and knowledge. 

· Examinations are conducted by independent staff from a PADI Office. EFR Instructor Certificate 

 

What are the goals of the Instructor Development Course?

 · To prepare you for work as an instructor. 

· You will gain the knowledge, skills, and teaching techniques to effectively use the PADI System. · The course is designed for practical application. 

· Performance is evaluated throughout the program to help improve your skills. 

· The number of attempts to meet course requirements is unlimited. 

· To encourage you to contribute to the growth and successful development of the diving industry. 

· You will have the opportunity to contribute to a positive image of diving and its growth. 

· Being a good instructor is only one part of being a professional – understanding the specifics of the diving business is very important. 

· We will discuss issues related to economics, society, culture, law, government regulations, environment, marketing, and customer relations.

· The long-term success of the AWARE program depends on your support. 

· You are expected to share an environmental mindset and care for the aquatic environment. To become an OWSI, you must pass the IE. However, passing the exam is not the main goal of the course, but rather the result of preparation. 

 

What are the performance requirements for the Instructor Development Course? 

· Complete 16 modules of the PADI IDC eLearning online course. 

· Participate in 16 practical sessions.

 · Conduct at least three knowledge development teaching presentations. 

· Conduct at least four confined water teaching presentations. 

· Conduct at least two open water teaching presentations. 

· Perform at least 4 confined water presentations, 3 knowledge development presentations, and 2 open water presentations, each including 2 skills.

 · Pass an exam on the PADI System, Standards, and Procedures.

 · Pass a Dive Theory exam covering five sections. 

· Demonstrate 24 dive skills for evaluation. 

· Perform a rescue of a panicked diver at the surface. 

· Perform a rescue of an unresponsive, non-breathing diver at the surface. 

· Participate in a rescue scenario. 

· Swim 400 meters continuously and float for 10 minutes. 

 

What to expect at the PADI IE? 

· The IE is a two-day evaluation program. 

· You demonstrate your ability to teach, perform rescues, and show your understanding of the PADI System and dive theory. 

· The exam is graded on a pass/fail basis. 

· Examiners will answer your questions about the exam organization, but their main job is to evaluate you. 

· There is no teaching during the exam – you must come fully prepared.

 · Upon completion of all program components, you will be authorized to take the IE. 

· The final decision is yours to make independently.
